Title : BMW 7 Series: The Complete Story (Crowood Autoclassic)
Author : Graham Robson
Rating : 5 Stars out of 5.
Summary : A great book for a great car
A very interesting read. It's always nice to know the heritage of your car and this book does that faultlessly. If your 7 Series is more than just a car to get you from A - B then this book is for you. It gives lots of background information in to the design and manufacture of the 7 series. It is packed with photos, drawings and technical data taken from the original design blueprints. It's clearly written and the author obviously loves the 7 series as this shines through in the text.

Title : BMW 3-Series Enthusiasts Companion
Author : Jeremy Walton
Rating : 5 Stars out of 5.
Summary : TOTAL ENDORSEMENT
In their July 2001 issue, Total BMW magazine comment of this book in their opening paragraph: "There are 3-Series books already out there but this beats them all to pulp. Written by BMW expert Jeremy Walton, the BMW Enthusiast's Companion leaves no stone unturned in charting the history of the car from the 2002 age to the 340 bhp E46 M3. If you wanto to know it then it's in here somewhere."There is more in a similar positive vein, but potential buyers should note that the title was published in the USA. It does cover all the major European moves and even some of the more obscure South African specials, but British model changes are not specifically covered. In 368 pages and more than 350 black and white illustrations there are myriad facts and figues, plus the full 7-chapter story on three generations of M3 and their racing cousins.

Author : Jeremy Walton
Rating : 4 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Good, but flawed - unlike the car....
This publication was meant to be an improved update of the author's previous work on the subject. In many senses, it is. However, in a book of this quality, one would not expect to find glitches or poor proofreading, but that is exactly what you get. This spoils the enjoyment of what is a fascinating history. If publishers and editors actually sat down and read the book instead of leaving it to a spellchecker, then quality would be far better than it actually is. Some friendly advice: go and buy the car - a good, well-cared for example - and enjoy it. Then, and only then, read this book.

Title : Illustrated BMW Motorcycle Buyer's Guide
Author : Stefan Knittel
Rating : 3 Stars out of 5.
Summary : More of a history book than a buyers' guide.
This is a great book and well written. However, it is more of a history book on the BMW motorcycles than it is a buyer's guide. There is very little information on pricing and the author is very generous to the BMW legacy without being especially helpful to prospective buyers. I put it down having learned alot about the BMW line but probably more confused about which BMW to buy than when I picked it up. If you want to learn about the bikes it is great, if you are a newcomer and you want basic buying info, I am not sure that this is the best book.

Summary : Only covers models up to 1997
Being a BMW "M" series fan, I was naturally attracted to this book. However, imagine my disappointment when I opened to package to find it only covered models up to 1997, not mentioned on the cover. 1997 models, being 7 years old are quite frankly out of date. For a classic "M" enthusiast this would be an interesting book, but for those who dream of the the latest M3 and M5s and their superb designs it scores only 2 stars I'm afraid.

Author : Mike Macartney
Rating : 4 Stars out of 5.
Summary : A comprehensive book for all '02 owners.
This is a comprehensive book about the full range of BMW '02s. There are a lot of useful sections such as setting up the fuel injection and converting to 5 speed gearboxes that are not readily available elsewhere. I am sure that most '02 owners, new or old, will find something useful. My only criticism would be that the author does not provide much information about BMW specialists other than Jaymic, in Cromer, UK. As he is one of the proprieters of Jaymic, that may not be so surprising!

Title : End of the Road: BMW and Rover - A Brand Too Far
Author : Andrew Lorenz
Rating : 1 Stars out of 5.
Summary : An Opportunity Missed
For starters this isn't good value for money. I think £ for such a thin book is a bit steep - I'd finished the book within 2 days and I'm not a fast reader!Secondly it skims over the surface of the issues, it feels like an extended newspaper article rather than an in-depth study. The authors stick to the rather few (albeit very important) people that they spoke to, and treat one or two of them to (unjustified, in my view) hero-worship. They could have added far more interest, colour and drama, if they had perhaps talked to some more operational people to get a feel for what it was like 'on the ground'; (It would also have added a bit more material). If you're looking for a far more interesting book on a car industry merger gone wrong then buy "Taken for a Ride" on the Daimler Chrysler merger. It's a far more interesting and entertaining read than this, rather unsatisfying book.If you're looking for a better or comparible history of Rover and BMW then stick to reading the newspapers ...

Title : BMW 3 and 5 Series Service and Repair Manual (Haynes Service Repair Manuals)
Author : A.K. Legg
Rating : 3 Stars out of 5.
Summary : A practical users view of the Haynes BMW 3 and 5 series book
I owned a 318i 1990 model BMW for 12 years. I used this book as my source of guidance for the last 3 of those years. On mechanical matters it is mostly good and has helpful advice for alternates to the purchase of BMW special tools. It does not however have any significant help on interior trim. I never did find out how to tighten up the interior rear view mirror which was loose. And if you want to remove or replace door trim you are on your own.The book mainly illustrates operations with pictures of a 3 series car, there is relatively little for 5 series owners here. I think they may rate it only 2 Stars or less. I personally would have liked to see more "exploded" line diagrams, so helpful in re-assembly of complex items.None the less I would buy it again if I still had the car.

Author :
Rating : 4 Stars out of 5.
Summary : A must for the 3 series owner
This book is invaluable to any 3 series owner, especially those with the later models incorporating the M52 engine. I have been an avid fan of the Haynes manuals for many years but they have no plans to produce a Workshop manual for the later 3 series cars. The book has been written for the US market, hence the terms Hood,Trunk and Fenders, however, that in no way detracts from the wealth of information available. The drawings are of high quality, as are the photographs and electrical diagrams. There are many special tools required to work on these sophisticated cars and it would have been worth the time and trouble to details possible alternatives, or show how some of these tools could be manufactured by the dedicated DIY mechanic. All things taken into account, this book offers a wealth of information, and in the absence of any other publication, a must for the BMW 3 series owner.
