Title : BMW Enthusiast's Companion: Owner Insights on Driving, Performance and Service
Author : BMW Car Club of America
Rating : 2 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Not that many tips for the 4 cylinder Bimmer owners...
At last the book you've been waiting for! Full of valuable insights on owning, maintaining and driving a Bimmer. However, as its written by members of the BMW CCA I think it suffered a little from a North American bias. Many of the products are not available at all, or available under a different name in Scandinavia, which makes things a little harder. Also, I thought there was too much focus on the 6-cylinder Bimmers. I drive a 318 and wish as many tips were given to us "baby Bimmer"-owners. Why not produce an European version? Perhaps in association with BMWCCE??

In these days, buying a car is like buying a computer software. You pay for the right to use it. And if something goes wrong, you get a minimun off help. This book can help you and save a lot off money, not having to go to the shop for every little thing. But still it's not complett. But still very usefull. Title : Illustrated BMW Motorcycle Buyer's Guide
Author : Stefan Knittel
Rating : 3 Stars out of 5.
Summary : More of a history book than a buyers' guide.
This is a great book and well written. However, it is more of a history book on the BMW motorcycles than it is a buyer's guide. There is very little information on pricing and the author is very generous to the BMW legacy without being especially helpful to prospective buyers. I put it down having learned alot about the BMW line but probably more confused about which BMW to buy than when I picked it up. If you want to learn about the bikes it is great, if you are a newcomer and you want basic buying info, I am not sure that this is the best book.

Title : End of the Road: BMW and Rover - A Brand Too Far
Author : Andrew Lorenz
Rating : 4 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Fascinating review of the acquisition of Rover by BMW
This book covers the strategic and management issues surrounding the acquisition of Rover by BMW starting from the initial approach to British Aerospace. The book considers in detail how the BMW management handeled the acquisition and explains some of the background to the approach addopted. The approach was revised as time progressed but in spite of this the success was hampered by a number of external issues. Ultimately the effect of these was going to be greater than the benifits from the revised strategy to manage the two organisations as one. A timely approach by a british company specialising in corporate turn-around provided an opportunity for BMW to extracate itself from a situation which would otherwise have had long standing effects on the viability of the entire company. Ultimately the Rover business was sold to the Pheonix consortium lead by John Towers.
The set-up of MG-Rover by Pheonix and the strategy of the new management is also covered. The book closes with a view on the long term viability of MG-Rover as seen in late 2001.
This book makes excelent reading for anyone wishing to gain an understanding of the management strategy behind the news headlines which rocked the British Motor industry for most of the year 2000

Title : BMW M-Series and Performance Specials (Sports Car Colour History S.)
Author : Jonathan Cohen
Rating : 4 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Very informative book
This is the best book about performance BMW I have come across. It features history, facts and pictures about M1, M3, M5, M635 CSi, M6 and 850 CSi.
What suprised me the most was the in depth information and nice pics about Alpina, featuring the B10 BiTurbo, B12, B8 4,6 (3 series with 333 HP V8) and early B7 Turbo models.
Info about ALL Alpina models and M models! Also mentioning some Hartge models, AC Schnitzer CLS II and CLS III.
As I said earlier, the definite book regarding M models, Alpina and other top-notch tuners.

Title : BMW 3-Series Enthusiasts Companion
Author : Jeremy Walton
Rating : 5 Stars out of 5.
Summary : TOTAL ENDORSEMENT
In their July 2001 issue, Total BMW magazine comment of this book in their opening paragraph: "There are 3-Series books already out there but this beats them all to pulp. Written by BMW expert Jeremy Walton, the BMW Enthusiast's Companion leaves no stone unturned in charting the history of the car from the 2002 age to the 340 bhp E46 M3. If you wanto to know it then it's in here somewhere."
There is more in a similar positive vein, but potential buyers should note that the title was published in the USA. It does cover all the major European moves and even some of the more obscure South African specials, but British model changes are not specifically covered. In 368 pages and more than 350 black and white illustrations there are myriad facts and figues, plus the full 7-chapter story on three generations of M3 and their racing cousins.
